Our dream trip to New York

Brooklyn Bridge New York

One of the places we have long wanted to visit was New York. Finally in January 2019 we decided and we started to organize this wonderful trip by booking for May 2019. The flights, the hotel, the Esta (visa for the USA) and health insurance (essential when going to these places) we made through our trusted travel agency. All the rest, itineraries, season tickets for urban vehicles and city passes have been done independently on the spot. Here is our itinerary divided by days:

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Manhattan

Day 2: 09/11 Memorial Plaza & Museum, Oculus, TriBeCa, SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, Flatiron District, Gran Central Terminal

Day 3: Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Wall Street, Bronx, Yankee Stadium, Roosevelt Island, Queens

Day 4: Columbus Circle, Time Warner Center, Central Park (first part), Dumbo, Brooklyn Bridge

Day 5: Harlem, Central Park (second part), MoMa, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Williamsburg

Advice.

As we said before, we organized the trip through our trusted travel agency, however it can be easily organized independently.

The key things for a trip to New York are:

  • Passaport
  • Esta
  • Health insurance
  • Hotel reservation with reliable operator
  • Air flight booking with reliable companies and direct flight.

To enter the United States the only valid document is a passport, so those who do not have it will have to request it from the competent police headquarters.

Esta.

The Esta or the visa to enter the United States can be done directly on the official website https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. Just choose the Italian language, and click on create new request, fill in all the fields, upload a photo of the passport, and in the last screen make the payment of $ 14.00 to be made via PayPal or credit card. After a few hours on the inserted email you will receive the copy of the Esta that you will print and take with you. The Esta has a duration of 2 years from the date of issue.

Insurance.

In the United States, it is essential to have health insurance because health services are paid and decidedly expensive. We when we move outside Europe we rely on Columbus Insurance, it has a good value for money and several options.

Hotel and flights.

When we do not rely on travel agencies we book the apartment or hotel room through Booking.com. We have been using it for 6 years now and we have never had any problems. We highly recommend it.

As for the outward and return flights, we absolutely do not recommend a low cost airline because often it happens that these companies a few days before departure cancel the outward or return flight and to save a few € you risk ruining your holiday. This time we travel with Alitalia and everything went smoothly. Finally, we recommend direct flight in order to have as few problems as possible, delays, loss of luggage, etc.
